These materials allow us to run electrophoresis on DNA--that's visually separating out bands of DNA from each other like a forensics lab result we see on TV. We currently have a set, but it was purchased before I started 18 years ago and all of the chambers are almost dead, leaking, or just plain broken.
A set of these chambers helps our students prepare themselves for the biotechnological future that any life science major should embrace! We've been trying to run these labs for years now (one is required for my AP Biology students and our Forensic Science students would love these as well!), but ours are mostly broken and leaking.
A new set will last me and our school for probably the rest of my career.
