This will help my students learn by letting them explore outside of the traditional modern classics taught in High School English by looking at alternative perspectives. . I teach Juniors and Freshman, and believe the book sets I have chosen will teach them about making it over the hypothetical rainbow of their own lives. By teaching the Hobbit, it teaches inner strength, and teamwork. Students will suggest a problem in our school, and try to work together to come up with a solution that will benefit, not only them, but their classmates. The Diary of the Part-Time Indian will focus on not being afraid of who you are as a person, and will address what bullying can do to ones esteem, and how to combat those issues in their student's everyday life. Water for Elephants will address compassion towards others, and all living forms of life. It will also look at a historical time period in a new light, and show the students what it takes to fall in love, and how to face the many challenges of maintaining relationships, advancements, and others who doubt you.
