My students have proven they are inspired to meet and exceed third grade standards, despite the obstacles. Living in a high-poverty, high-diversity community (93% free or reduced lunch), supplies are a critical issue holding my students back from greater success. Our school has been moving our students steadily higher in terms of academic achievement, and I am motivated to bring in any and all resources that will further this trend. My students have shown a willingness to embrace challenging work and read for hours each week to make accelerated growth. They support each other in cultivating the characteristics of great readers, writers, scientists, and mathematicians, and it is an inspiration to watch them grow. Last year, we made 1.38 years growth, and some students exceeded two years growth. That is not enough! We want to move ever closer to an average of 2.00 years growth, as a class, excluding no one.
