My third grade class is comprised of 20 students, 10 boys and 10 girls. They are a mixed ability group, some with gifted and special needs identification and some labeled ESL. The students come from diverse households that range from low income to middle class. They are very active and have their ups and downs like any other class. They are a technologically aware generation and able to use many electronic learning devices aside from school computers.
The school I teach in is a Title 1 public elementary school that has socio-economical and multicultural diversity. 75% of our population receives free and reduced lunch. Our school has a large population of special needs students, including SECEP and severe and profound disabilities.
