I teach sixth grade world history, seventh grade civics, and eighth grade United States history at Edison Park K-8 Center in Little Haiti, Miami. Funny, smart, inspiring, hardworking, open, willing, hopeful, confident, and capable are the words that come to mind when I think of my students. Many of my students come from low-income households and do not have access to technology or Internet at home. Many of my students are also first-generation immigrants from Haiti and lack basic English language skills. Access to technology will allow my students to learn important skills such as typing, reading, writing, researching, and analyzing, skills that they will use in high school, college, and for the rest of their lives.
Edison Park K-8 Center is a school that teaches students from kindergarten to eighth grade. Edison Park struggles with technology. We recently have had Promethean boards installed, but we are still in need of a lot of technology for students to use.
