The school is a K-5 elementary public school. The majority of the students are English Language Learners. Many of them live locally in the neighborhood of the school. Many of their families are from Latin American countries such as: Columbia, El Salvador, Peru and Brazil. The majority of the students receive free or reduced price school lunch. I work with 375 students over the course of a school week. They are eager and excited for art class each week.
Our school district provides us with basic art supplies such as crayons, colored pencils, construction papers, and scissors. This is a good start! However, for many of the interdisciplinary projects planned this year, we need to go beyond the everyday materials and use various artist supplies and tools.
