We are fortunate enough to have one SPIKE Robotics kit, but that will have to be shared between 28 builders, taking many, many turns with much sanitizing due to COVID precautions.
With your donation, we could have three teams of 4th and 5th graders working SAFELY to solve the real-world cargo and supply problems inspiring this season of the LEGO First competition. Due to COVID precautions, having three separate teams tackling the problems will have builders sharing their ideas, but not their germs with each other. We may also be able to field three separate teams as we compete with other schools.
These kits will help us achieve ALL of the Engineering NVACS (3-5-ETS1-1, 3-5-ETS1-2, and 3-5-ETS1-3). In addition, students will apply many mathematical practices, specifically, SMP #1 Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them, SMP #5 Use appropriate tools strategically, SMP #6 Attend to precision and SMP #7 Look for and make use of structure. Finally, we will achieve our recent NVACS for Computer Science including 4.AP.PD.1 Test and debug (identify and fix) errors in a program or algorithm to ensure it runs as intended. (P6.1-2) as well as 4.AP.C.1 Develop programs that include sequences, events, loops, and conditionals, as well as P3.2 Decompose complex real-world problems into manageable subproblems that could integrate existing solutions or procedures, and a host of other Computer Science standards!
