Forbes Magazine reported that the essential skills employers look for in new hires includes collaboration and problem solving (including the ability to plan and prioritize tasks.) It is the responsibility of teachers and schools to provide students with the experience they need to be prepared for their future. The traditional classroom setting no longer meets the needs of all students.
Creating an open-concept classroom will allow students to take ownership over their learning and work styles by encouraging them to find a workspace that best suits their needs. This style mimics open-concept offices found in many innovative corporations. Students will also learn to exercise responsibility in choosing where they work. This responsibility leads to higher levels of engagement and classroom participation.
The clover tables (taking the place of traditional desks) create workspaces where students can collaborate equitably. The larger flower tables will take the place of traditional, teacher-led kidney tables and allow for larger group projects. The multiple seating choices give students an option that will best allow them to focus on the tasks. They are also easily moved and stored for time when no seats are needed.
