We are a group of second graders in an inner city school in California. We are lucky to have a nice playground with a lot of grass, a few trees, and a blacktop, but we do not have a good way to keep kids active. Many kids like jump ropes, but we only have two available at recess. I am trying to instill in my students that you need to be active and do exercise. Many respond "I am not fat. I do not need to exercise." I am trying to show them being active is good for all people and that it can be fun too. Having been an obese child and now adult, I want to instill in them a love for active play and jumping rope is one way I can show them this.
