Creating a welcoming environment will help my students feel comfortable and excited to come in and learn. Middle School students are at a pivotal time in their life, and deserve every opportunity possible to foster the creative thoughts they are beginning to process.
These items have been on my mind for many years. I am finishing my 11th year of teaching and these items (this visionary classroom) will be a dream come true for my students and myself. These different seating options will be placed around the room, to give students a sense of individuality and ownership in their education.
The futon I chose will be placed at the back of the room with the rug in front. There will be alternate seating options such as the loveseat, rocking chair, and dish chair on each side of the futon. The hightop table will be placed at the front of the room, in clear view of the Smartboard. Floor seating options like the inflatable chair will be stationed along the wall and students will have the ability to move those about as they wish. All students will be asked to try the different options and find what is most comfortable and fosters the best educational outcomes for them.
