I am proud to be a second grade bilingual teacher. My students are loving, caring and hard workers striving to become great readers and thinkers. I teach in a special but challenging district. There are many challenges the district and its teachers face. Some of the challenges include a high number of immigrant students many of whom have interrupted formal education (our SIFE students), a high percentage of students living in poverty, a great number of students classified as "Students with Disabilities" SWD, a great number of students classified as "Limited English Proficiency " LEP, and lack of updated and new resources available to the students and teachers. I have several students who came into the country last year. Many of whom lack resources at home to help them with their homework. Others must learn to complete their homework without the support of their parents.
