These books will continue to build by classroom library and develop a sense of community through literacy and conversation. I strive for students to read print books in the classroom for two specific reasons. First, many cannot afford to and/or do not have the means to do so. Second, with today’s emphasis on digital media, it is my goal to preserve the concept of reading from a printed book.
Additionally, in my classroom I have a sign that reads, "Readers are Leaders" because I truly believe that the more students read about lives different from their own, the more they develop a sense of empathy and understanding.
