A shoe that is too small is difficult to put on, uncomfortable, and unusable. A shoe that is too big is easy to put on and doesn't need much effort as it probably doesn't even need to be unlaced. It's uncomfortable to wear as you slide around in it. A shoe just your size is comfortable, takes some effort to put on but not to much, and makes walking around much more enjoyable! Just like Goldilocks, you need the one that is "just right".
Just like it is important to find the right size of shoes for that perfect fit, it is important to find a child's right fit for a book! The materials I have selected as a need for my classroom will help me to instruct my students how to read at their fit level. When the book is to difficult for a child the child fatigues and give up on reading, making reading a task and a chore rather than something enjoyable. When the book is to easy for a child they don't have to put in any effort to read the book. No effort needed means no brain power needed for growth to happen. The 'just right book' allows students to practice reading where it challenges them to improve, but not to the point of frustration!
By helping my class get a leveled library, you are helping my students become successful readers who share the same love of reading and literacy that I do! You are helping the future of readers!
