I teach at a Title 1 school in Florida. Our school has an extremely large Hispanic population followed by a large Asian population. Most of these students are 1st or 2nd generation Americans. My students are extremely eager to learn and love to be shown something completely new. Last year, I began a new tradition of teaching Shakespeare after FCAT testing. My class was very excited about the topic and our Shakespeare Festival performance that was at the end of the year. We worked very hard making Elizabethan cuffs, out of coffee filters and paper bags, to wear while we perform (as my students could not afford to make/buy costumes of their own). This year's students can't wait to invite their peers, other teachers, our administrators and their families to watch them perform the works of Shakespeare and follow in the footsteps of last year's kiddos.
