My students posses boundless curiosity about the world around them. They also delight in learning about the experiences of people from different times and places.
Adding these amazing novel sets to our class library will allow my little explorers to connect with powerful stories tied to the Holocaust, the Civil Rights Movement, and the more recent war in South Sudan.
Each of these titles will give students the chance to learn about the past and relate to young characters tackling monumental life challenges. Recognizing the grit, and perseverance of story characters can inspire my students to overcome negative situations and lead them to seek solutions to problems within their community.
Discussions of the texts will provide students the space to ask and explore difficult questions and develop empathy for others. It will also give them the chance to learn about the past so it can inform their future choices.
