Our 4th-grade classroom library is a place my students love, are excited to have, and are thankful for the diverse titles. The library is cared for by the students and taken such good care of. The books included in this project will add to the richness of learning and encourage deep conversation; conversation is an integral component of the foundation of learning and growth.
The books chosen for this project not only consider my students but also the diverse people in our community that my students may meet someday. Our classroom library represents diverse cultures, races, ethnicities, LGBTQ, and more. It is vital our library includes diverse titles, so the children can meet and understand the amazing characters within the pages.
To maximize the enjoyment of independent reading time, the students always choose their titles. It is important for 4th graders to learn how to find just-right books that pique interest, challenge understanding and thinking, or are a topic they love to read about.
Research identifies the best way for young readers to become more proficient at reading is to read wide, deep, and often. With this new collection of books my students will be excited to read independently, with a book club, or with a classmate - all the while growing socially, emotionally, and academically!
