My students need to be able to have some flexibility in their learning and their seating in order to be successful academically. It is my goal to have flexible and comfortable seating choices in my classroom. Children are not meant to sit in stiff seats that are too small for them all day long and my students often spend more time in my classroom during the school day than they do at home. I want to give my students comfortable and various seating options in my classroom, such as, yoga balls, rockers seats, bean bag chairs, standing desks and cushions. This would allow the students to change where they are sitting and make my classroom feel like their home away from home.
The idea for this project came to me because I have been watching so many of my students with Attention Deficit Disorders struggle in the typical classroom setting. I have always allowed my students to get up when they need and given them choices of moving around the room, but I want to do something more for them. I know I can't sit in a plastic chair for six hours a day, so how can I ask my students to? This project being funded would be a way to make sure my students have better options than the floor or hard plastic chairs for sitting in my classroom.
