We are a compassionate and inquisitive group of fifth graders in a Title I AVID Elementary in Southern California. A large percentage of my students live in low-income households. The majority of my students get free meals. Regardless of the financial difficulties, these students are enthusiastic learners. A key component of the AVID model is to prepare students for success in college and careers. We want them to be creative and inquisitive. We encourage them to "wonder" and take charge of their learning. We encourage critical thinking, questioning, and synthesizing through our units of study while implementing our state standards.
