Chromebooks will play a vital role in the educational day of my students. Since our school has converted to a Google Chrome school, the possibilities and limitations are endless as long as the technology is available.
However, our school has not had the funding to properly equip our students with Google friendly technology. If "Chromebooks to Lead the Way" is fully funded, my students would have daily interaction with Google Classroom.
Within my Google Classroom, I have created lessons based on skills that I am teaching during my Reading, Language, Science, and Social Studies class times. For example, my students are currently comparing and contrasting different accounts and author's perspectives on various issues. Since we are studying the constructive and destructive processes in science and how they change the earth, I recently posted a video of a first hand account of someone reporting from a typhoon. In addition to this video, I also posted a video from you tube that explained the causes and effects of typhoons. The students were then asked to submit an assignment concerning these videos via Google Docs. They were also instructed to participate in class discussion on our Google Classroom live stream.
I have also assigned various News ELA articles for my students to read on their reading level and take quizzes that mimic the achievement tests at the end of the year. Since the majority of my students do not have access to technology at home and I have only have one computer in my classroom, these resources are not being used to their fullest potential. Currently, students are working on these assignments 1 day per week in our computer lab. Adding Chromebooks to my classroom will allow my students to have daily interaction with technological experiences needed to be successful.
