As a first grade teacher, I want to provide my students with as many supports as I can to help them thrive in their education. These materials will provide visual supports for learning. Students will use the math skills write and wipe boards to manipulate number which will help them with their number sense and recognizing patterns. As English language learners, students need tangible items to count, visuals to use as support, and opportunities to demonstrate their learning and understanding of math concepts.
Students learn through making connections, the Giant Magnetic Visuals Model Chart will allow them to see how numbers can be represented in many forms, the 120 chart will help them to recognize patterns and the dice will provide a tangible means to support student learning. Having these materials will provide my students with a visual to recognize number order and support their knowledge of number sense. I will be able to model concepts counting, adding, and subtracting using ten frames, part-part-whole, and the number line on the chart. Students will be able play games with the ten-frame dice activities and have fun making connections. To support differentiated instruction, these materials will allow me, as the educator, to work with students in small concentrated math groups to support each student's individual needs. They can also be used as an assessment tool for students to demonstrate their knowledge and progress, as well as areas of opportunity to grow.
