A listening center and audio books would provide a multi-sensory experience for all students in the classroom. A listening center and audio books will help students to strengthen their listening skills. Students would be exposed to fluent narrators who read with expression in order to convey meaning in the story. Audio books also provide students with a variety of complex vocabulary above their reading level. Struggling readers are able to listen to stories that would frustrate if read independently. A listening center with audio books would also help to strengthen my students reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. When conferring individually with my students, they will be able to describe their favorite part, the problem/solution of the story etc. Finally, a listening center would help to spark the imagination of my first grade students.
