Students at our high school come from a variety of backgrounds and struggles. We have over 54% of our student population qualifying for Free/Reduced lunch and a 30% mobility rate. This translates to a lot of students living in financial need and moving from school to school frequently. Despite this, we continue to push for high achievement and innovative practices, and it is because of this that I am seeking to implement a classroom library for extensive choice reading. Our kind and hard-working kids will respond to the high interest engaging texts, and through interacting with them and each other, we can potentially change their lives. A great book can inspire and change a person. It can draw a person in and open doors to new ideas. It can give a student a new way of looking at things. Our kids deserve nothing less than this.
