I have taught math/science in the elementary school setting for the last three years using project-based learning. In doing so I have seen first hand that many students love science, but have a fear of math. I'm working to change that one class at a time.
A maker space with legos and circuit boards is a perfect way to incorporate hands-on math in a non-threatening and fun way. In addition, students are using problem-solving and social skills to work together and communicate while solving fun engineering challenges. The use of Chromebooks to research, record, and share possible solutions is also a way to incorporate 21st-century skills in our classroom.
