I teach elementary art to 600 students in kindergarten through 5th grade in a public school in Indianapolis, Indiana. I have the blessed privilege of knowing, teaching, and encouraging my students as they grow from curious 5 year olds to respectful and responsible and intelligent 10 year olds.
We are a Title One school, meaning many of our students are living in poverty. We provide free and reduced lunches, supplemental groceries, and free lunch over summer break.
We have a diverse cultural population with many students receiving additional help from our English as a New Language teacher.
It is a team effort of custodians, food service , instructional assistants, teachers, bus drivers, special needs, counselors---all of us work together with the same mission: inspire and instill in every student a passion for lifelong learning and enable them to develop the attitudes, skills, and talents to become responsible citizens prepared to compete and flourish in an ever changing world.
