My students are very curious and love exploring and finding out new things. They need to be active and need activities that are targeted to their age group. I have been impressed with how quickly they have been learning their letters and their sounds. So many of them are excited about writing and are improving by leaps and bounds. But where are the jump ropes? I teach in an inner city school with 99 percent of our population is Hispanic. I have a class of 25 English language learners that are expected to be writing paragraphs by the time they finish Kinder. In addition, they are expected to be readers by then. I have faith in them and in myself. Together we will reach those goals. Thankfully, we have sufficient materials and programs to teach the core subjects, but we are very lacking in the area of Physical Education. Through the Physical Education trainings and seminars I have attended, I have come to realize the importance of physical activity in the lives of our student.
