I work with dyslexic students. I see the struggles and frustrations these students face on a daily basis. Not only do I teach them strategies for reading, but equally important, I work to build their self-confidence, self-worth, and perseverance.
I want my dyslexic students to know that they are not alone. The books in this project were chosen because: 1) the main characters, like my students, face daily challenges due to dyslexia, or 2) the published author has overcome their own struggles with dyslexia (with hard work and determination). I have also included books that will help parents and teachers understand and support the dyslexic child.
My students are just like others, they WANT to do well in school. These books will lead them to the understanding that they are not alone, and success IS attainable. The parent/teacher books will lead to a better understanding of how to support dyslexics in and out of the classroom. My hope is that with these books, YOU AND I TOGETHER, can make a difference for these students, and those to follow.
