My students come from an area with a very high percentage of working class families. Our Native American, Hispanic, and Special Education student population are significant. 6th grade is a very confusing, weird, and emotionally trying time. Through example, I strive to create an atmosphere of kindness and concern for others, asking for help if needed, and gaining life skills that pertain to being good human beings. Math skills are taught along with every day skills of treating each other good. Math can be so difficult for many students, so being able to be ok with getting help and reflecting on learning needs, students take action in my classroom.
