My students live in a neighborhood in Arkansas that has a combination of low income and middle class families. The community values education and the school culture is one of pride and respect. My students come to school on time every day filled with excitement about what they will learn. Some of my students did not have learning opportunities before the first day of kindergarten. They are enthusiastic about learning and they are proud of their ability to do things that they were never able to try before. My students LOVE new learning opportunities. Education today has a strong focus on drilling and testing. In my kindergarten classroom I am diligent to keep our learning developmentally appropriate. We incorporate play and fun into our learning as often as possible.
