Growth Mindset is a theory developed by Dr. Carol Dweck. This research proves that our brain is a growing muscle, if exercised.
Help kids GROW their BRAIN and ACHIEVE personal success in and out of school.
The requested materials will help me teach the skills necessary for my students to have a Growth Mindset. Each book or other items focuses on a different concept. They will be used as the main tool of the lesson or as a reinforcer to an activity or video. Mindfulness, brain basics, not yet is OK, determination and grit, positive self-talk, and uniqueness are the prevailing theme throughout each book. Allowing students to immerse themselves in the read alongs, makes it easier for them to relate to the concept and how it applies to them. All of the materials will be used for whole and small group lessons or one-on-one activities.
This theory is about teaching students, that with effort, they can get smarter and grow their brains. We used to think that our intelligence was fixed, meaning we were either smart or we weren’t. Scientists have proven again and again that this simply is not true. Our brain acts like a muscle, the more we use it, the stronger (and smarter) our brain becomes. It is powerful to tell kids that the research proves that kids who learn about Growth Mindset actually DO BETTER.
These materials help teach this theory to students with hands-on lessons and bibliotherapy. Growth mindset promotes that intellect and innate talent are just the starting point; that one’s ability can be developed through dedication and hard work. It is an exciting new theory for counselors to teach students so that students find success in both academic and personal outcomes.
