I am requesting 2 standing desks for my classroom. They will provide flexible seating for students that struggle with trunk support. These desks will allow the students to choose a seat that helps them to focus during lesson and independent work time. My students currently stand and work at a black board or magnetic whiteboard. Another option is the students can work with a clip board while laying down in different areas of the room. It is my goal to create the most effective work environment for all students. This will create the proper brain activity and promote sensory friendly learning.
These students are motivated with the change to take charge of their learning. Comfortable students are learning students! Studies have shown that grades and attitudes heighten when students make conscious decisions with learning. I have even seen my third graders smile and rejoice at the academic choices they have made to be present and take control of learning. These students make better choices and they are engaged when they can sit, stand, and choose an option that works for their body and brain.
