When I recently asked my students to define technology, most answers included favorite video games. While this is a valid reply, I want my students to become aware that technology also includes them being the programmers, not just the players. They need to learn that technology can enhance their learning through the use of coding websites, safe search engines, and Google Docs. This project does just that by having my students read the novel Hatchet, construct a game board, code game movements using Scratch, and link the board to the computer using the Makey Makey. They have the materials needed to create the game boards and computers to access the Scratch website but they lack six Makey Makey Kits which are the kits needed to make their games interact with the Scratch website. Your donations will purchase these Makey Makey Kits.
By incorporating coding into their projects, my students will learn that they too can be designers as well as players when using technology. Thank you for your donation.
