My students became concerned with water quality and the affects of pathogens in our local rivers and streams. They partnered with a local organization to assess the quality of local creeks in our area. Several times during the year, the students assess the creek. To do this they illustrate, identify, and collect water samples to determine the quality of the water. This requires my 4th & 5th graders to get in the creek to collect samples and gain accurate information in their observations. The waders will allow them to wade up and down the creek without getting their clothes and shoes wet. It is important for them to collect accurate data to input for the overall report to be submitted.
