I am a High School Special Education teacher of 11 students with Autism preparing for both adulthood and the workforce. Each student is assigned an age-equivalent peer mentor, as a mentor and coach, as we take pride in our Peer to Peer/LINKS program. Along with core academic skills, my students work on much needed vocational skills that will enhance self-regulation and independence.
These vocational/ life skills include: meal prep., laundry washing/drying/folding/ironing, landscaping, sweeping/mopping, and various office-related skills.
My students are always excited to learn new tasks and skills, with the support of their age equivalent peer mentor. When one finds success and masters a new skill, their classmates and mentors cheer them on! We thrive on positive behavior supports.
