Most of our students come from extremely high needs families. Access to technology is difficult. Many of the programs purchased by the school for academic purposes such as iready, myon, and GoMath! require that we have multiple computers or technology in the class for the students to use.
The technology that the school currently has is limited and outdated. The common core standards require that our students are able to use technology efficiently to do research and projects.
The use of Chrome Books and an iPad will alleviate the technological challenges that students face in the classroom. Students will use the Chromebooks and the iPad to go on to the programs that the school has purchased. They will be able to use these products for reading and math. Studies have shown that using a listening center to listen to text read and reading along repeatedly both enhances reading ability and comprehension. Most of the students in our third grade class are of special needs and or ELLs, having a listening center can be beneficial to them since they are currently reading below grade level. The listening center will allow our students access to reading material that can be listened to repeatedly at their own pace.
