I teach at a Title 1 school in a very large and diverse district. In our community, families don't have a lot of money to provide children with a lot of extras. The parents work hard just to make ends meet. In fact, many of our students must attend our after-school program so their parents have more time to work. That makes for a long day for my little friends.
My students are an enthusiastic group of second graders in a high poverty community in Northern California. Many of them are second-language learners. They come to school every day eager to learn.
