My first grade students are active and eager to learn. They come from diverse backgrounds in an urban community in North Carolina. Our school is a Title I school and many children come from low income homes. While many of my students have limited experiences outside of the classroom, our school provides an STEM program to engage students in cooperative, problem based learning activities. Our school is also an EL school focused on building strong character, engaging students in rigorous academic learning, and creating high quality work. My students are extremely motivated by these activities and enjoy learning about each other and the world around them.
