Reading is a skill all students need to ensure success in school and in life. Our library needs culturally responsive books so students can identify with the characters in the books they read. Having books available that reflect who they are will encourage them to read more. When students read more they build stronger reading skills. Stronger reading skills build life long learners. If they are reading literature that is culturally responsive they will build a momentum for reading.
The donations for this project will help me continue to build a catalog that is reflective of the culture of our school and students and build stronger readers. My goal is to build lifelong learners and readers. I want my students to have a "mirrors and window"experience when they are reading. Through the availability of culturally diverse books I hope to achieve that goal along with the generous sponsors at donors choose. Thank you!
