My amazing 1st graders attend a public school in a Washington D.C. commuter suburb. We are a Title I school, and many of our students receive free/reduced lunches. Due to the ever increasing number of budgetary cut backs, we have very little to stock our classroom, which doesn't come from parent or private donations.
The majority of my students come from families, where either one or both parents are actively serving in the military. Many of our parents are often deployed over seas for long periods of time....sometimes on a moment's notice! Others work for companies, which serve and support the military from the private sector. Some of my students speak multiple languages due to diplomatic ties, come from migrant worker families, or have come to us, not only from all over country, but all over the world! It makes for a very unique classroom setting, which I am honored to be part of, as their teacher! :)
