Our school has a lot of behavior issues and children with a lot of trauma. We have been working school wide on PBIS and also within the district this year. We as a school are trying in every way to help these students with any issues they may have so they can get through the day and learn. We have decided that an "Incentive and Reflection Room" would be a great benefit to our students.
Many students come to school with a lot of “baggage” and have breakdowns during the day for many reason. It could be no medication was given to them at home, something went on before school, they were set off by something and they are not mentally ready to learn. This will be a safe, peaceful place we can bring the child to cool down or sit and reflect about how they can change his or her actions, or talk about what is happening at home or school etc. We also have girls groups that meet and talk about issues that are going on in their every day life. These meeting will also be held here. This is a place where role model students that are always doing their homework, being kind, getting good grades can go as a reward when time is earned in small groups to complete work and work with others as a privilege. It will be a place where friendships are made, skills are learned and conversations are held.
