Our district is implementing a new learning managements system called Canvas. Parents can choose whether to send their students to school through virtual or in person learning. In order to ensure that students receive an equal, high quality education in both learning environments, teachers are being asked to implement Canvas in both virtual and in person settings. In the case of a quarantine, students should be able to seamlessly transition from one learning environment to another. In order to do this, they need proper training and modeling in the classroom.
Our district has taken initiative to offer 1 to 1 learning devices for students grades 1-8. Kindergarten is not included and we will have to scramble to use left over iPads and older laptops or desktops to accomplish our Canvas training. By providing my class with 3 Chromebooks, we will be better equipped to learn this new technology. I have seen kindergartners excel at using technology in the past. If they are given the right tools, rules, and expectations, they can navigate and enhance their learning through any technology. Then, if school gets closed or we have to quarantine, they can take the lead on their own learning. Kinders can be techies too!
