In order to make learning more engaging and student-centered, I would love to switch from desks to tables. My students have mentioned how different the classroom would be with them. Tables will help us have more of a flexible seating atmosphere. Students can decide what area and what kind of seating is the most comfortable for them. The tables also give the classroom more of an "at home" feel, encouraging them to continue learning at home.
It is my hope that the time we spend together in the classroom will encourage them to continue striving for success. Being able to provide them comfortable and flexible seating will aide in doing so. The added space we would get with tables would allow my students more room to move during our various brain breaks. With our district going 1:1 with iPads, our learning will be flexible. So, why can't our seating also be flexible?
