An area rug in the classroom will add an extra space for students to go. There are times it is ideal for me to have my students closer to me and away from the distractions at their desks - especially during mini lessons or when working together during writer's workshop. It's a great space for students to move to when they are doing independent or partner reading, or simply when bodies get wiggly and they need a new space to go to. It breaks up the time they spend sitting at their desks. It's also great for read alouds and class discussions. The rug can also transform into a work center for students when they are collaborating on projects. The possibilities are endless! The bean bags would be an addition to our classroom library and would help encourage a love for reading!
