This is the start of my 10th year teaching English Language Arts and my 3rd year teaching at David G. Millen Middle School. I currently teach 6th grade to a great group of students. Coming to a new school, having to change classes 7 times throughout the day, and dealing with the everyday complexities of growing up, my students are choosing to come to class with a positive attitude. All of the changes that come with going to a new school can get students into a fixed mindset because it is too overwhelming. One way to help facilitate a growth mindset is to offer student voice and student choice. Each classroom on campus is set up the same: same student tables and chairs, same teacher desk, same format with whiteboards, etc. I try to kick it up a notch by creating fun posters and areas to display student work, but by offering flexible seating I can take it to the next level for my students.
