My students are struggling readers who are intimidated by the written word. I want to create a reading area that is warm and inviting. The community library is Not easily accessible, preventing students from having the opportunity to get the experience of selecting and checking out books. With these items I will recreate the experience of library transactions and create an environment that fosters reading as a calming nonthreating experience.
I will "hire" classroom librarians to help setup and maintain the area, creating a self-regulated lending library. As such the mobil cart will make it easier for students to select and maintain our class library. Additionally the flexible seating pillows will allow students the oppertunity to get comfy with a good read or meet with a peer reader in a less traditional setting.
