I teach in a community that has recently suffered a severe downturn in the economy - many foreclosures and loss of employment for our families. I teach at a public high school. Most of the students will not experience science classes again (won't attend college science classes) so I would like them to remember with passion and excitement the joys of science and "go out with a bang". Perhaps my enthusiasm and the awe and "magic" of great and safe demonstrations will encourage some of them to pursue their studies further.
