Fidgets are a HUGE need at our school. Many of the students who I work with on a day to day basis have disabilities such as ADHD, autism, ODD, Tourette's syndrome, etc. Students with these types of disabilities benefit from the use of fidgets to assist them in using their energy in ways that is helpful to them and that limits distractions for other students. Many students benefit from the use of calming music while working independently, however, when students use their phones or laptops, it is easy for them to become distracted. With the use of an iPod shuffle is makes it so that students can listen to music ONLY. It limits the students ability to get distracted by social media, text messages, and videos. With the increase of technology use in society, students have many tools available to them, however, distractions have become a huge problem in classrooms. It is my hope that with the use of these fidgets and tech items, I will be able to provide my students with solutions to their behaviors in the classroom and aid them in accessing the curriculum with the use of technology and fidgets.
