In the 3rd marking period I would like to expose students to opportunities that exist to utilize math for artistic design. I will show them how to use mathematical formulas to produce artistic shapes. Students will then apply this instruction to create transformations, which can take the form of shapes or cartoon characters and use math to scale up or down based on the equations.
They will identify and use geometric figures found in various shapes as a guide to recreating their own. Students will take precise measurements and use algebraic concepts to transform the images on a Cartesian plane. At the end of this project students will gain a better understanding for creating parallel and perpendicular equations using digital art.
To do this my student will need a Microsoft Surface Pro that has a stylist in order to draw these shapes in a digital format. We also need a keyboard and protective case.
Contributing to this project will help students that would other wise not take an interest in math become more engaged by incorporating digital art.
