I teach 1st Grade at a charter school in a high poverty neighborhood of Chicago. My students are eager, curious learners who are captivated by discovering new and exciting things! My classroom contains a wide range of levels and learning abilities. I have students who are still working to learn basic letter sounds and develop phonemic awareness, and students who are already reading at a 3rd grade level. I have students who are struggling to recognize numbers and students who are discovering multiplication! In our class, everyone works hard and we celebrate each others victories together. We do a lot of small group work and individualized instruction in order to meet and engage everyone where they need to be met. One thing we are lacking in our room is a variety of books, especially books that reflect the race and culture of my students. Thanks for considering partnering with me to provide my students with more books!
