My students are a very unique balance of personalities, abilities and backgrounds. No two students share exactly the same background which is something I've learned to embrace in the classroom. Our school is in a moderate poverty area, but it services many students living in poverty. We have over 75% students receiving free or reduced lunch prices. This makes it very difficult to get booster funding, particularly since the families are struggling to just get food on the table. These students are resilient though. They know they are facing an uphill battle, but they come to school each and everyday with the mindset of conquering academics. They set goals, are willing to try new things and are eager to share all of their wonderful thoughts/ideas. My students want to focus on growing as learners and I make it my personal goal to do everything I can to facilitate that.
