Our school is a beautiful new K-4 Elementary school that services the entire city of Newport, RI. We have a culturally diverse group of students with over 50% eligible for free/reduced hot lunch. While Newport may tout itself as a destination city with mansions and yachts, that is not at all reflective of our public school student population. While our building is new, we desperately need to build our technology device capacity. I am the library media specialist (LMS). We have a plethora of electronic resources available to us. To teach library classes, we share 13 laptops and 3 desktops. There are 2 LMS’s and 2 classes each period every day. That is 50 students per class period sharing 11 laptops. We need to build device capacity. K-1 student have 5 iPads in each classroom. iPads in the media center will allow us to support teaching and learning with iPads by teaching the students how to access and use our digital media.
